Faced with a problem of the default DOCman theme not displaying icons on a Windows local server because the DOCman's development team is apparently clueless about the proper way of generating URLs, I had a choice of either fixing this or abandoning DOCman altogether. Well, just out of sheer stubbornness, I guess, I decided to fix it, although the amount of ridiculous bugs in DOCman that I discovered in the process will definitely keep me away from it.
Basically, there is a str_replace function inserted in the appropriate spots in the templates so to flip the slashes. This fixes the icons. Then I got a bit carried away and changed the aesthetics for the theme to resemble the standard Purity a little more - buttons and such. Then I added an option to have multicolumn display of categories on the DOCman's homepage. You can have one, two or three columns. A word of cation, though: you have to be very careful with equating amount of content for each category, i.e. sizes of icons, length of category names and amount od description text. If there is considerable difference between categories, the category boxes will re-flow and end up in wrong positions on the page. There are no tables to keep them anchored in specific locations.
This is what it looks like
Installation. Since the DOCman's theme installer as of v.1.5.2 doesn't work, you'll have to install this manually. It's easy. Just copy the file PureDoc.zip into /components/com_docman/themes/ and unzip. You'll get the PureDoc folder and the PureDoc theme with show up on the list in the "Themes" section of the DOCman control panel. After assigning it as default and customizing its parameters, you may delete the zip file from the directory. This theme comes with Russian language file included, which may be irrelevant for most of you, however, should you need to localize this theme for your site, please use its English file as the source - there is some difference to the default English file.
This theme was developed and tested with DOCman v.1.5.2. It is fully compatible with versions 1.5.2. through 1.5.5.
Update: This theme has been tested and is known to work with DOCman 1.5.8 through 1.5.12.
Update: version 220.127.116.11 released with a minor big fix and more accommodating naming conventions
Please remember, that themes for DOCman 1.5 are incompatible with DOCman 1.4.
